Editable Codex

Here is an email I just received from Hacki Dragon:

> I don't know if you remember me, but I used to post on your nitpicks forums
> under the name 'Elzair', or 'Slithe' under the Lazarus forums. Anyway, since
> you have not updated your site in a while, I was wondering if you would mind
> if I posted the nitpicks on the "Codex of Editable Wisdom", the Ultima wiki.
> I hope to hear from you soon.
No, I don't mind. Feel free to copy the nitpicks :)

I just wanted to let everybody know that I have Hacki's approval to post these.

Open Spell is Not Safe[]

That's right. You mix the ingredients, you spend the MP and when you are done, you are just as likely to blow yourself up, or poison your party. In fact, if a human opened a trapped chest there was always a chance the he might disarm the trap. I don't remember such fortune ever befalling a spell caster. This is in direct contraction to what I read in The Book of Mystic Wisdom, which promises that the spell will render the trap harmless.

The reason I'm talking about this, rather than just editing the article, is that it seems so outrageous that I have to second guess my interpretation of the spell. In fact, it wouldn't even be a nitpick, it would be a blatant ripoff! Furthermore, if it's so obvious, why hasn't it been included among the nitpicks long ago? I should also point out that IIRC, I found the same phenomenon in both the Apple and PC versions. I guess what Hitler said was right: people are more likely to believe a big lie than a small one.
