Description Edit

The Shrine of Sacrifice

Located in the middle of the Drylands lies the Shrine of Sacrifice, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine in difficult to reach due to the unforgiving nature of the desert. Surrounded by the remains of Lake Generosity, the shrine can be reached by a bridge.

Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "CAH", to find the ways of Sacrifice.

History Edit

Erected before the Quest of the Avatar, the shrine was easier to reach in Ultima IV, sitting on a isle in Lake Generosity. Meditating at the shrine gave insight into Sacrifice, and elevated the Stranger to partial Avatarhood.

By the time of Ultima V, Lake Generosity had dried out, leaving the shrine alone in the Drylands. The Avatar had to prevent Lord Blackthorn from destroying the shrine. The shrine sent the Avatar on a quest to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, to understand the true meaning of Sacrifice. Later, the shrine accepted donations for Karma.

By Ultima VI the gargoyles had captured the shrine. The Avatar freed the shrine, who in return explained again the meaning of Sacrifice to the Avatar, and would raise the stats of the party.

In the time of Ultima VII, parts of Lake Generosity had returned, but a lich had defiled the shrine, conducting his dark rituals there until the Avatar destroyed him.

  • The Keyring Mod for Exult makes it possible to restore the Shrine of Sacrifice in Ultima VII to its former state.
