Merlin is a mage that lived in Cove during Ultima IV.
A mystical wizard found in the remote eastern section of Cove, Merlin asked if the Stranger studied magic, wishing the hero good luck with its study.
On a tip from Sam, the proprietor of Jolly Spirits in Britain, the Stranger inquired about the Black Stone. Merlin responded that the stone was caught in a moongate, and that the hero should stand where the gate of both moons dark would appear, and search when the moons go dark.
