There are some mages who are afraid of fire. This makes it difficult for them to douse their candles when they are no longer needed. Douse can be used for this purpose, or to extinguish more serious fires. It is the opposite spell to Ignite.
If every fire in sight has to be doused, then the Great Douse spell is more efficient.
