Artegal is a fighter in Cove in Ultima VI.
The Avatar found Artegal a broken man, heavily wounded by his battle with the Gargoyles while trying to free the Shrine of Compassion. Their assault on the shrine led by the warrior Gertan was a complete disaster. He was unable to talk to the Avatar due to the great pain he suffered.
